SMUDAJESCHECK GALERIE
This January, SMUDAJESCHECK GALERIE moved from Schwindstraße to Augustenstraße, into the former premises of Galerie Karin Sachs. The rooms are larger, is that what prompted Charlotte Smudajescheck to take this step?

What particular challenges and opportunities did the move to the new premises bring with it?
A move is always a challenge, quite rightly so. The gallery is only moving 500 meters away. Nevertheless, we have to inform all our contacts, the new location has to be well publicized and get into people’s heads. We see the fact that the gallery is now a member of KUNSTAREAL MÜNCHEN as a great opportunity. We see the proximity and possible cooperation with the renowned museums and institutions as an enormous advantage. For the first time, we will also be making an exciting contribution to the Kunstareal festival.
What can visitors experience that they might not have expected beforehand?
The new exhibition rooms are much more spacious and brighter than those in Schwindstraße. Visitors can move around the gallery without barriers. Our BACKSTAGE area, where we alternately show artists from the gallery who are not currently exhibiting, is more pleasant and airily proportioned. Here we present selected works in a loosely curated hanging.
What does it mean for you personally to start in a new space with a new dynamic?
The new location is of course already a booster. Augustenstrasse is a busy shopping street where we are more visible, and we are just a few steps away from the great museums on Königsplatz. There are also a few colleagues around the corner. I can well imagine that we will be able to cooperate with other renowned artists at the new location.
Exhibitions that await us at SMUDAJESCHECK GALERIE in 2025: The opening exhibition “Density and Thinkers” with works by artist Zsolt Zrínyi runs until February 22.
Also: Rita Rohlfing with “spaces and more” from 20.03. to 17.04.25 at the Open Art Munich SPRING & WALK. The artist works across different media with painting, sculpture, photography, video and installations. Clarity in color, form, space and materiality are just as important to her art as the concealment and surprise that only the attentive viewer discovers.
In the summer, Chris Tille follows with “Traces of Light” from 03.07. to 26.07.25 for the Open Art Munich Gallery Weekend. Chris Tille, trained as a classical photographer, works at the interface of science.
