Klaus Staudt

Mythos Licht, Wandobjekte + Stelen

04.07.2025 – 30.10.2025

Under the title “Myth of Light”, the gallery is dedicating an exhibition to the renowned Frankfurt-based artist Klaus Staudt, showcasing a selection of his relief objects. His work, which belongs to the tradition of constructive and systematic art, occupies a distinctive position within the field of geometric abstraction. At its core, his art is concerned with the presence of light and its visible manifestation within the artwork itself. The specific form through which light appears is always determined by the unique way in which the work is realized. Even Socrates pointed out that the act of seeing depends on mediation — in his words, through the “noble bond” of light created by the sun god. As early as the 1960s, Klaus Staudt developed his own formal system for his work. Using constellations of individual segments — derived from divisions of squares and cubes — he has continuously arranged them in new ways within multi-layered wall objects and sculptures, creating a fascinating variety of forms that reflect light in ever-changing ways.
The effect of shifting daylight plays just as crucial a role in casting the shadows of the individual segments — mounted on transparent acrylic glass — as does the movement of the viewer. A tension arises between delicate shadow play, semi-transparent reflections, and precise construction. It is as if he were systematically building toward the veiled mystery of the “Myth of Light”.
