M wie mood
22.05.2025 – 06.07.2025
With “M for mood,” Franziska Nast creates a comprehensive tableau of existential and non-existential states. In photographs, videos, drawings, and delicate bronze sculptures, she interweaves autobiographical references with feminist, art historical, and pop culture references. She translates these into often contradictory materials such as skin, rice paper, metal, or asphalt – drawn, tattooed, perforated, or sandblasted. The narrative layers of image and text fragments incised, drawn, or applied to the surfaces enter into a dialogue with the personal and social meanings of both found and manufactured objects. A semantic complexity of material and emotional constitution unfolds on the edges of hi-fi and lo-fi aesthetics, fashion, design, fine art, and tattoo art. In doing so, Nast opens up a complex examination of memory, care work, gender and affect, which at the same time reveals fractures and overlaps in the multiple roles of being a woman* and an artist*.
