Fish Hooks of the Pacific Islands

Volume II

19.01.2024 – 27.03.2030

The fishhook derives its shape from its practical purpose – to catch a fish. But in cultures where fishing is, and always has been, a primary source of livelihood, the making of fishhooks becomes an art. “Fishing Hooks of the Pacific Islands Vol. II” concludes the extensive and in-depth discourse of the first volume. Together they are the first comprehensive reference work on Pacific fishhooks since the publication of Harry Beasley’s “Pacific Island Record: Fishhooks” in 1928, which was printed in an edition of only 250 copies.

The recently published Volume II on Pacific Island fishhooks is the result of six years of intensive work; a smaller handbook for collectors and experts is due to appear later this year.
