Elvira Bach

Elvira Bach (*1951) is an influential contemporary German painter, best known for her vivid, expressive portraits of women. At the center of her work is the image of womanhood in all its facets. Her art often incorporates autobiographical elements such as femininity, eroticism, joy of life, melancholy, and strength. Characteristic of her mostly large-scale figures is her use of bold, luminous, and highly contrasting colors. Bach achieved her international breakthrough in 1982 with her participation in Documenta 7. Today, Elvira Bach is regarded as one of the most significant artists of the late 20th century. In honor of her 75th birthday, we are planning a solo exhibition presenting a selection of her important works.
