Die Präsenz des Abwesenden
07.06.2025 – 10.08.2025
In his solo exhibition THE PRESENCE OF THE ABSENT, Eike König explores the connection between myth and language. Boldly formulated, black-and-white, language-based artworks construct meanings from the broad spectrum of globalized mainstream iconography, taking on a mythological quality. The interpretations are multifaceted, the provocations subtle, shot through with a sharp, ironic wit. Myths are not just handed-down stories, but deeply rooted narratives that reflect the values, beliefs, and identity of a community. They help us answer complex questions about life and death, nature and the cosmos—while simultaneously nourishing the myths that underpin capitalism as a system. The American Dream, unlimited growth, equal opportunity, and consumer culture are mythological pillars of a narrative that König questions or sometimes simply makes visible. In König’s works, language itself takes on a mythological dimension. Certain words or phrases are charged with meanings that extend far beyond their literal definition. Language becomes a tool for formulating, articulating, and communicating abstract concepts and experiences. His artistic works function as bridges that enable a bidirectional exchange between inner and outer worlds, the present and the absent, the tangible and the immaterial. Interpreting without interpretation.
