Echo der Stille
Fotografische Meditationen
20.11.2024 – 01.03.2025
The exhibition Echo of Silence brings together the works of Albarrán Cabrera, Steffen Diemer, Miho Kajioka and Christopher Thomas in an impressive exploration of silence, time and contemplation. Their works not only reflect the visibility of the world, but also reach for the invisible, for the space between reality and perception.
Albarrán Cabrera is a Spanish artist duo that combines technical skill with philosophical questions. Their works explore themes such as memory, time and perception. Inspired by Japanese aesthetics and traditional photographic techniques, they use alternative processes such as platinum and palladium printing or cyanotypes on gold leaf. Their images go beyond mere documentation and invite the viewer into a poetic, contemplative world in which reality and imagination merge. Albarrán Cabrera’s art is strongly influenced by her interest in neuroscience, physics and Eastern philosophy. They investigate how human consciousness shapes and interprets the perception of reality. Steffen Diemer, master of wet plate photography, brings an almost spiritual stillness to life in his works. The carefully composed motifs – often flowers or everyday objects – seem to have fallen out of time thanks to the wet collodion technique. They are reminiscent of the aesthetic reduction and simplicity of Japanese art, which strongly influences Diemer.
Miho Kajioka, also inspired by Japanese traditions, creates minimalist photographs that resemble visual haikus. Her works interweave personal stories with universal themes such as transience and the beauty of the moment.
Christopher Thomas, on the other hand, focuses on deserted cityscapes, which he captures with a large-format camera and Polaroid technique. His black and white images, characterized by an almost painterly quality, reveal the silent pulse of urban spaces. The exhibition invites visitors to discover the similarities in the differences – a meditative immersion in the tranquillity of the images that leave the noise of the world behind.
