Christian Holze

50/50

22.11.2024 – 11.01.2025

Driven by the fundamental questions of human existence and the artistic inquiries they provoke, Christian Holze crafts a poetically charged, hybrid visual world. This world draws from various sources such as the beauty ideals of classical antiquity, the synthetic aesthetics of social networks, and the utilitarian visual language of marketing. In his artistic practice, he blends painting, sculpture, and both computer-aided and AI-supported techniques to place renowned artworks into new, ironically altered contexts. Thus, the Dying Gaul encounters the Dying Adonis, and the Barberini Faun replicates himself as a sexually charged beau of antiquity emerging from his own lineage. This creates a moment of sensual transfiguration with which Holze captivates viewers, steering clear of escapism. Themes of uprooting, identity loss, and appropriation are continually hinted at through the detachment and iconoclastic nature of his works.
