Alf Lechner und Marco Stanke

ZWEI GENERATIONEN KONKRET

05.07.2025 – 27.09.2025

On April 17, 2025 Alf Lechner would have celebrated his 100th birthday, an anniversary that provides an opportunity to rediscover the artist’s passionate engagement with material and form. This, however, can only succeed by considering today’s art scene and the new generation of up-and-coming artists. With Marco Stanke (*1987), Galerie Bender juxtaposes Lechner’s work with an artist who was born 60 years later. In Stanke’s paintings the canvas is not merely the support. Rather, his works are spatial structures where he playfully undermines the difference between the visible, painterly object and its support.
What both artists have in common is, thus, the fascination for process and material. Whereas Stanke investigates the fundamental elements of painting, Lechner renders visible the traces of industrial processing as an integral part of his sculptures. Despite these connections, their works differ significantly in their medial characteristics, thereby providing a stimulating dialogue in 2024 at the Lechner Museum in Ingolstadt and now in the exhibition rooms of the Gallery.
