Aleksandra Belić
Skin of the Sky
04.07.2025 – 01.08.2025
Aleksandra Belić is a painter – classical – oil on canvas, from small format to space-consuming polyptychs, also drawings and graphics and occasionally the urge to three-dimensionality in form of ceramics; studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy under Siegfried Anzinger and Katharina Wulff. Her works revolve around one of the most central themes of life, the unfathomable web of interpersonal relationships – love, desire, reality. Naked bodies overstretched in a mannered way reminiscent of Parmigianino,, women with legs spread, men in expectant dominance, couples tenderly embracing, all neither pornographic nor romantic, but embedded in a dreamscape peppered with symbols, mythical creatures and animals. The scenes are neither pleasure garden and ideal world nor apocalypse, but lie somewhere in between and are always peppered with art-historical references and mythological analogies. Cupid’s arrow strikes St. Sebastian. Aleksandra Belić’s works are atmospheric and poignant, polarize different emotional levels and remind us of our own experiences, dreams and deficits. Nevertheless, their major atmosphere speaks for melancholy, loneliness and desire.
